Q. How do I become a Star Energy partner?

A. Becoming a Star Energy partner is so easy. The first step is to get a quote and compare our rates to your recent energy bills. From there, we’re happy to go over our services, thoroughly explain our rates, and answer any questions you may have via phone or email. After that, it only takes a few moments to sign up through our site or over the phone. 

Q. Why are we called Star Energy Partners?

A. We understand that this electricity buying thing can be a bit complex with all the different deals out there. So we decided that for a fee of just 50 cents a day, we work to get for you the lowest price we can find with no markup or margin—we are your “partner”. We don’t profit from you using more power (like other power companies), and we genuinely want you to find ways to reduce your consumption and overall cost. Furthermore, when your price segment is up, we work to find you the best rate time and time again.

Q. How does Star Energy Partners provide 100% green energy?

A. Your power comes from the grid which is like a giant electricity washing machine where energy is instantaneously generated from multiple sources—some fossil fueled, some renewable. However, we want to contribute as much as possible to supporting renewable energy generation. So for every kWh we supply to you, we will ensure one of our wind farm partners produces a green kWh. We voluntarily pay our wind partner to buy a renewable energy credit, which means when we sell you one kWh, we buy one kWh of renewable energy credit (one-for-one).

Q. Who do I call if I have a problem with my power at home?

A. If your service is interrupted, contact your utility company. They will continue to manage all of the infrastructure related to the delivery of your energy.

Q. Will there be any other paperwork I should know about?

A. No. You’ll get the same bill you get now from your utility company, except it will show that you are getting your power from Star Energy Partners, along with your fixed energy rate.

Q. Can I cancel if I’m not satisfied?

A. Of course. If you are not 100% satisfied with your partnership, you can cancel at any time with no early-termination fees (that’s right—none!). But we have a feeling that once you have your locked-in rate, and experience the benefits of using green energy to power your home, you might stick around.

Q. Will I be treated differently by my local utility by switching?

A. No. Your local utility always provides the same services to every customer, no matter who provides their electricity. We work closely with your utility to bring you the very best service and energy at all times.

Q. Will my utility company know I have switched?

A. Yes, we take care of your enrollment. You will receive confirmation from your local utility company indicating that you have been switched to Star Energy Partners. That’s all there is to it. You’ll remain on your regular billing schedule, and your service won’t be interrupted.

Q. What is my contract term?

A. The term of the Hybrid Advantage product is 36 months, but as noted, you can terminate at any time at no cost to you and no early termination fee. Across the 36 month term, you will have one of more price segments.

Q. What is a price segment?

A. The term of your contract is broken into price segments. This means that at the start, you select a price segment that suits you, which sets a fixed price that won’t change during that segment period. At the end of the segment we will automatically select the lowest price segment for you, or you can select another price segment that may suit you better.

Q. What happens after my first term segment is complete?

A. You’ll be automatically moved to the best available rate for the next term.

Q. What if I find a lower rate on the Star Energy Partners site? Can I switch at a later date?

A. You can check your rate against our current rates at any time on the website and switch to that plan.

Q. Can I change my term segment before it is up?

A. Yes. You’ll be able to do this through your online account or by contacting us.

Q. Will my utility company know I have switched?

A. Yes, we take care of your enrollment. You will receive confirmation from your local utility company indicating that you have been switched to Star Energy Partners. That’s all there is to it. You’ll remain on your regular billing schedule, and your service won’t be interrupted.

Q. How can I save more money on my energy bills?

A. We’re glad you asked! In addition to our commitment to finding you the best rates on green energy, we’d love to help you lower your bills even more. Some great ways to save money and energy include using fluorescent lighting, unplugging seldom-used appliances, and switching to energy-efficient appliances and fixtures.

Q. Do you support net metering?

A. If you’re interested in taking advantage of net metering, please fill out this application and send it to us at suppliersupport@starenergypartners.com. We’ll ensure it’s properly filled out before we send it to your local utility. We’ll include you on that email so you know when it has been forwarded. Your utility will respond back confirming their receipt of your application, which can sometimes take a few weeks. Thereafter, if you have any questions on how to fill out the application or how net metering works, you can contact Victoria Crites by email anytime at suppliersupport@starenergypartners.com or by phone Monday – Friday from 8am – 5pm ET at 1-855-427-7827. 

Q. What exactly is renewable energy?

A. Renewable energy (also called green energy, clean energy, or alternative energy) is any kind of energy that comes from a source that won’t be depleted with its use. Examples include hydropower, wind energy, solar energy, and biomass energy.

Q. How much of the energy in the U.S. is renewable?

A. As of 2015, only 13% of the energy in the U.S. comes from renewable sources. Approximately 6% of that energy comes from water power, while the remaining 7% comes from other sources (wind, solar, or biomass).

Q. What are the benefits of renewable energy?

A. Most of our electricity (and the world’s) comes from fossil fuels or nuclear energy. These are not only being depleted rapidly, but they are harmful to the environment. Renewable energy, on the other hand, is produced through clean (non-harmful) practices—and our sources are infinite. Plus, the focus on more renewable energy in the U.S. is helping us create more jobs and reduce our dependence on imported fuels. Click here to learn more.

Q. What forms of renewable energy are available to me?

A. We are committed to providing you with 100% green energy so you can feel good about what you’re consuming. Currently, we are partnering with suppliers of wind energy and solar energy.

Q. What are renewable energy credits?

A. When you purchase power through Star Energy, your money goes to fund the creation and expansion of more renewable energy through renewable energy credits. Each credit represents proof that 1 megawatt-hour of electricity was created through a renewable energy resource. In other words, a renewable energy credit proves that green energy is being created and supplied to customers.

Q. What are fossil fuels, and why are they so dangerous?

A. Most of the energy in the world is created through the burning of fossil fuels. These may include coal, oil, or natural gases. They can be dangerous to extract and burn—causing immediate or long-term problems. Fossil fuels can be linked to global warming, acid rain, oil spills, heavy air pollution, and more. Plus, at the rate we’re using them, we’re likely to run out in a matter of time.
